Cardiff - City Centre
General Information
Cardiff is located in its own region of Cardiff in Wales, United Kingdom and was confirmed as the Welsh capital in 1955.
The city centre is a mixture of Victorian and Edwardian streets and gardens, with some specialist shops still retaining their original facades. Today the docklands have been transformed into a focal point by the creation of the freshwater lake and waterfront of Cardiff Bay. There are a number of boat tours which operate from Mermaid Quay giving information on the history of the area. Cardiff Waterbus has a taxi service, which operates throughout the year from the Bay to the city centre and the suburb of Penarth.
Cardiff attracts tourists from all over the world year round as there is so much to see and do here, including the impressive Cardiff Castle. Cardiff is a modern city and is fast becoming one of Europe's finest maritime cities. Even though Cardiff is a city, it is also known for its wide-ranging parklands which cover at least 10% of its area, offering tourists great walks and picnic spaces.
