General Information

Aberdeen is located in the Highlands region of Scotland, United Kingdom, and is Scotland's third largest city.  Ever since the discovery of petroleum in the North Sea in the early 1970's Aberdeen has thrived, with the the sea bed generating over 100 oil fields.  Although Aberdeen is known as the Granite City, its rough edges are softened with the year-round picturesque floral displays in the public areas.  Duthie Park Winter Gardens, is one of the largest indoor gardens in Europe.

Worth a visit is Castlegate, which is at the end of the mile-long Union Street, and was once the site of the city castle.  Aberdeen is formed of two parts, old Aberdeen with its peaceful charm and medieval streets to the innovative newly developed Aberdeen, there is something for everyone.

There are many attractions in and around Aberdeen ​to keep all ages of tourists entertained.  Some of the activities are :-

  • St Andrews Cathedral
  • Provost Skene’s House – built in 1545
  • Art Gallery – wide range of exhibitions, mostly contemporary work
  • St Nicholas Kirk – Founded in the 12th century it is Scotland’s largest parish church
  • Maritime Museum – exhibitions include ship-wrecks, rescues, shipbuilding and the oil installations off Scotland's east coast
  • St Machars Cathedral – oldest granite building in the city
