Dunkeld
General Information
Dunkeld is located in the Highland region of Scotland, United Kingdom, and is situated on the River Tay. This quaint village was nearly all but destroyed during the Batle of Dunkeld. A couple of famous mentions would be Beatrix Potter having found inspiration for her creation of Peter Rabbit whilst holidaying in Dunkeld and Shakespeare also refers to Dunkeld in his play Macbeth.
Located in an area renowned for its "big trees", Dunkeld is well placed for exploring the remarkably scenic countryside. The town is divided from Birnam by the Telford Bridge, a lovely feature along the river. Filled with whitewashed shops and pretty cottages, this town is well worth a visit.
The majestic presence of Dunkeld Cathedral dominates this picturesque village and today is partly in ruin and partly parish church, it is one of the top tourist attractions. The town has pretty brightly coloured houses which were built in the 1700's and now restored and homes in the care of the National Trust For Scotland, along with the Ell Shop, a specialist souvenir shop.
Being one of the best preserved historic towns in Scotland, Dunkeld has a range of things to do and see. The town has a lively music and arts scene, fantastic restaurants / pubs along with good quality shops and galleries.
