General Information

Welshpool​ is located in the Powys region of WalesUnited Kingdom, approximately 4 miles away from the border with England on the River Severn.

This bustling market town is surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful countryside with an historical significance to the area.  Along the border there are castles and fortifications magnificently overlooking the surroundings, once serving as the ultimate grounds for defence.  The most sought-after attraction in Welshpool is Powis Castle of which Queen Victoria and many Prince's of Wales have resided in.  The gardens that surround the castle are wold-renowned whilst the museum’s collection is one of the richest in Wales.

The countryside brings with it opportunities for many various rural pursuits which include walking, hiking, cycling and horseriding.  The town is predominantly focused on agriculture and local small industry.  Welshpool retains the largest sheep market in Europe, the Smithfield Livestock Market.

The town is the starting point of the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, a narrow-gauge heritage railway which is popular with tourists.  The Montgomery Canal runs through Welshpool and trips may be taken down it by barge. 

A unique attraction to Welshpool is Severn Farm Pond, an urban nature reserve protecting plants and animals amidst the busy industrial estate.  Winding boardwalks takes visitors on a wonderful journey through greenery filled with insects and nature.
